About The Event
Walk description:
Beginning at the iconic Theatre By The Lake, we will head west through the humble market town of Keswick to pick up the Cumbria Way, a popular long distance path that travels through the region. From here we will head south down the western side of the lake, still on the Way and now leaving the hustle and bustle of the town behind to enjoy the pretty village of Portinscale with its attractive marinas. There is a short stretch of road walking, although at this time of year we do not expect this road to be busy.
From here we will head on along footpaths past Nichol End and on through wonderful woodland with views across the lake emerging from time to time. Passing Hawes End Outdoor Centre, Victoria Bay, and Otter Island, we will soon reach the southern end of the lake, parting ways with the Cumbria Way and heading east.
The eastern shore of Derwent is different from the west in that there is the main B5289 running alongside. Thankfully however, much of the walk has a small footpath for us to follow, sometimes crossing the road. We will get up close and personal with the shore of the lake, perfect for skimming stones and enjoying a chilly paddle should you choose!
We will be walking along under the shadow of Ashness Woods and alcon Crag, passing Calfclose Bay and Lords Island, until finally we arrive back into Keswick to end back at the car park.
This is a truly wonderful walk to be enjoyed come rain or shine! Whether you attend alone or with friends/family, you'll soon get to know everyone in the group and enjoy a stress-free day.
Places are always limited on our walks, so do book on as soon as you can!
